Our path to carbon-neutral construction

Sustainability has always been at the core of our innovation. As part of our journey toward carbon-neutral construction, we continue to develop hybrid, hydrogen-driven and fully electric excavators, optimising engine performance while embracing alternative energy sources. By continuously refining our designs and manufacturing processes, we strive to create a more sustainable future without compromising on power, precision or reliability.

Quiet, clean and powerful

Our electric excavator lineup, led by the compact SK20SRe and the mid-sized SK90SRXe, offers sustainable power without sacrificing performance.

The SK20SRe is perfect for indoor or tight-space jobs, delivering zero emissions and ultra-quiet operation in a compact, agile design. Ideal for urban construction or interior demolition, it offers clean performance where traditional machines can’t go.

The larger SK90SRXe brings advanced electric power to heavy-duty applications, combining Kobelco’s signature short radius design with strong digging capabilities and zero on-site emissions. It’s a smart choice for environmentally sensitive zones and future-focused projects.

Together, these models represent KOBELCO’s commitment to cleaner, quieter and more efficient construction machinery.

Pioneering sustainable construction

KOBELCO Construction Machinery has unveiled a prototype of a hydrogen fuel cell-powered excavator, marking a significant stride toward carbon-neutral construction equipment. Developed in collaboration with Toyota, this mid-sized hydraulic excavator integrates Toyota’s advanced fuel cell system and hydrogen tank and delivers zero CO₂ emissions. Its only byproduct is water.

KCME HVO Prototype

Initial operational assessments have demonstrated that the prototype matches the performance of conventional diesel models, offering comparable movement speeds. Notably, it operates with significantly reduced noise and vibration levels, enhancing operator comfort. The absence of high-temperature emissions also minimises heat-related impacts on surrounding components.

KOBELCO is committed to refining this technology, aiming to achieve continuous excavation and loading capabilities on a par with traditional machines. This initiative is part of Kobelco’s broader strategy to diversify power sources, including battery-electric and wired-electric options, to meet the evolving demands of various construction sites and contribute to a greener future.

KCME HVO

HVO: cleaner power, same performance

KOBELCO construction machines are fully compatible with HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil), a renewable diesel alternative that significantly reduces CO₂ emissions without compromising machine performance. Using HVO in place of traditional fossil diesel helps to lower the carbon footprint of construction operations, while maintaining the reliability, efficiency and durability KOBELCO is known for. No modifications are needed – just fuel up and go green.

Continuous power for a greener future

KOBELCO’s wired electric excavators offer a practical, zero-emission solution for sustainable construction. Powered directly by an external power source, these machines eliminate the need for fuel, reduce operational costs and produce no exhaust emissions.

Ideal for long-duration tasks in fixed locations (such as tunnels, factories, car dismantling plants and urban jobsites), wired excavators provide consistent, quiet performance while supporting decarbonisation goals. With no downtime for battery charging, they’re both efficient and eco-friendly.
