Kobelco launches SK380SRLC its largest Short Radius excavator
A new Short Radius heavyweight champion
Kobelco launches its largest Short Radius excavator in the 38-tonne segment
Kobelco Construction Machinery Europe B.V (KCME) is pleased to announce the launch of its largest Short Radius (SR) excavator into the 38-tonne segment. Weighing in at over 36 tonnes, the SK380SRLC now leads the way as one of the heaviest and fastest SR excavators on the market.
SR machines have long been favoured by operators working on urban and residential jobsites and have further grown in popularity due to increasing requirements for roadworks and utility maintenance. SR machines benefit from a smaller working footprint, which means that they can access tighter working areas and can even operate within one carriageway, so as not to disturb traffic when working on roads or when lifting utility trench boxes. The addition of the all-new Kobelco SK380SRLC to its impressive SR line-up also brings with it powerful 200kW engine performance, excellent lifting capacity, increased stability due to its high operating weight as well as an exceptional all-round design, spacious cabin and excellent operability.
Tight project deadlines require excellent efficiency and productivity on the jobsite. The SK380SRLC features a Stage V-compliant turbocharged Hino diesel engine for increased horsepower, and, when more instant power is required, Power Boost can be engaged for 10% more power – with no time limit. The machine’s proven powertrain also delivers a class-leading drawbar force of 314kN for smooth and steady operation across rough terrain and slopes – even when lifting heavy objects. In addition, the combination of high hydraulic pressure (Heavy Lift) and balanced chassis layout delivers exceptional lifting capacity of 12,390kg (from ground level) even when digging at a reach of 6m.
Kobelco understands that operators working long hours on the jobsite require a comfortable workspace and improved operability. Designed with as much care and attention to detail the SK380SRLC’s spacious cabin incorporates a number of features to improve aesthetics, comfort and safety. The premium operator station is sealed and pressurised, and the powerful automatic climate control system directs warm or cool airflow towards the operator’s neck and back, providing all-day comfort in changeable climates.
The Kobelco-branded Grammer air-cushioned and heated suspension seat absorbs vibration even on the roughest terrain, and for optimum comfort, the SK380SRLC’s cabin is equipped with a DAB+ radio(FM/AM & AUX & USB & Bluetooth &hands free telephone, 12V power outlet, storage tray and cup holder. In addition, the SK380SRLC’s colour LCD multi-display screen shows fuel consumption, maintenance intervals, digging mode and other important information at-a-glance. Up to ten pre-set attachment settings can also be selected from the comfort of the cabin – the one-touch attachment mode switch converts the hydraulic circuit and flow amount to match attachments.
When it comes to operator safety, the unique and innovative tilt-up opening FOPS guard level II comes as standard, providing easy access to the external roof glass, which can be easily cleaned for improved visibility. Additional jobsite safety is assured via three standard cameras located on the left, right and rear sides of the machine. The multiple display facility allows the operator to customize viewing needs to further enhance visibility of the jobsite. Ground level access to the DEF tank and a special lower-access step, located near the engine, also simplifies maintenance.
A two-piece boom option for the SK380SRLC is expected to launch later this year, which will provide additional benefits on jobsites with restricted space, and particularly in maintenance and utilities.
Commenting on the launch of the all-new Kobelco SK380SRLC, Product Manager, Peter Stuijt, said: “The arrival of the SK380SRLC is a result of extensive market research and customer feedback, coupled with Kobelco’s extensive experience in innovative technologies. We’re seeing more demand for Short Radius machines, due to increased requirements for urban infrastructure and utilities, and the SK380SRLC offers all the benefits of a heavy machine, including high power and increased lifting capacity, but in a much smaller working footprint.”
